April 10 is the test of the Emergency Alert System, known as CodeRED, used by Yuba County. If you followed the BePreparedYuba.org link we have been sharing, you would have landed here to sign up. Just click on the CodeRED link below and follow the prompts. Look around and learn about important steps you can take to prepare for an emergency.
In an actual emergency, you would have been directed to our emergency page at www.Yuba.org/Emergency to get vital information on the event. Check out the page. It will be an important lifeline for the next emergency.
Floods and fires are very real possibilities for anyone living in Yuba County. Many people don't realize that floods are the most common natural disaster in the United States. Yuba County has suffered some of the most devastating flood events of the past century, most notably those in 1986 and 1997. Although flood protection is much better thanks to recent levee improvements, there is always some risk.
Similarly, the past few years have shown us that devastating wildfires pose a very real threat to our communities. Our foothill communities are particularly vulnerable to the ravages of wind-driven fires.
Being prepared is the best way to protect yourself, your family and your property.
Now is the time to prepare. These steps will help you in any emergency:
Step 1: Make a Plan
For you and for your family, take the necessary time to plan how to get out safely and, if you're separated, find each other afterward.
Step 2: Make a "Go-Bag"
If you had to suddenly leave, would you be ready? Follow these steps to create your Emergency Disaster Kit -- your go-bag -- filled with items you and your family will need during an evacuation.
Step 3: Be Ready for Anything
