Correctional Reserve Program

Yuba County Sheriff’s Department, Jail Division accepts applications for person(s) interested in a challenging career in law enforcement. This position offers a variety of things such as work experience, on the job training, and excellent promotional potential, including possible advancement into a full time position. The person(s) selected for the position(s) will perform responsible Jail Division tasks. The individual selected for this position must be capable of working effectively with a variety of people. The reserve program is a structured program that enables citizens to gain a career in law enforcement and become competent deputy sheriffs.

Reserve Officers may be assigned to work in a control room atmosphere, passing medication, feeding, issuing clothing/linen, strip searches and searches of the facility to mention only a few of a wide range of responsibilities associated with the program. Interest, knowledge and motivation in the field of law enforcement are essential prerequisites for the position.

QUALIFICATION AND SELECTION PROCEDURE
Applicants must have a high school diploma or G.E.D. Applicants will be at least 18 years of age and a U.S. citizen or permanent resident alien eligible for and who has applied for citizenship. Applicants must be physically capable of performing law enforcement work. Possession of a valid California Driver’s License is required.

NOTE: COPIES OF DIPLOMAS, COLLEGE TRANSCRIPTS, AND CERTIFICATES RELATED TO THIS POSITION OR DECLARED ON THE EMPLOYMENT APPLICATION MUST BE ATTACHED TO THE EMPLOYMENT APPLICATION FOR VERIFICATION PRIOR TO OFFER OF EMPLOYMENT.

All applications received will be carefully reviewed and evaluated based on the job requirements. A job-related written test may be administered, followed by a physical agility test designed to evaluate the physical abilities required to perform successfully in this position. Physical agility test events may include jumping, running and other job related strength and physical requirements. Those qualifying on both written and physical agility will be invited to an oral interview from which an employment list will be established. For each vacancy, the names of the persons within the top 10 scores on the employment list will be submitted to the Jail Command for final consideration and selection. Final appointment is contingent upon successful completion of medical and psychological examinations and an extensive background investigation including State and Federal Records on criminal convictions and submission of documents evidencing identity and authorization to work. Applicants may be required to take a polygraph.

1). An application review
2) Supplemental appraisal review
3) Skill test
4) Written examination
5) Oral interview
or
6) Any combination of these


The selection process will result in the development of an employment list. For each vacancy the names of the applicants with the top ten ranks on the list will be certified to the department for final selection, which may include a departmental interview and a reference check.

Appointment to a position is contingent upon the successful completion of a Pre-employment Medical Review, Review/Examination, and not upon the political beliefs or affiliations, race, religion, color, sex, handicap, age, national origin, ancestry, marital status, medical condition, or other non-merit factors.
