Yuba County hires new Airport Manager

Public Works Project Manager Jason Kopping has been selected to serve as the new Yuba County Airport Manager.

Kopping has been with the County for five years, serving most recently as a Project Manager for Public Works. Before that, he worked as a finance and administrative manager, and project manager for Community Development and Services Agency.
He graduated from Chico State and went to work for Hewlett Packard, then Agilent Technologies in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He takes over the role following the December retirement of former director of Administrative Services, Tim McCoy, who served in the position for two years.

“My goals include identifying new revenue streams to maintain self-sufficiency,” Kopping said. “The airport has many possibilities for our community, and I’m looking forward to being part of this effort to make it a hub for job and business activity in the County.”

The Airport Manager manages, plans, organizes and evaluates operations, construction, maintenance, customer service, economic development and marketing activities for the Yuba County General Aviation Airport, among other duties. Kopping will inherit the $1.8 million new taxiway project already underway—which will make the airport more attractive to businesses on the west side of the main airstrip.

“We’re excited to welcome Jason to Administrative Services, where he will take on the task of maintaining and improving the Yuba County Airport,” Director of Administrative Services Perminder Bains said. “His enthusiasm and creative thinking make him a great asset to our team.”

Kopping begins in his new role Feb. 3.
