Manhunt Following Shooting Incident Ends in Arrest

Camptonville, Ca. Yuba County Sheriff Deputies have arrested a 44-year-old Oregon man for Assault with a Firearm and Criminal Threats, following his alleged brandishing and discharge of a firearm at a property in the 17000 block of Weeds Point Road, Thursday morning, February 3, 2022.

Just before 9:30 a.m., Yuba County Dispatch Center received a 911 call from a woman at the Camptonville property stating that her son, later identified as Jeramiah Lutz of Grants Pass, was armed with a gun, making threats, and had fired shots into the air. The caller also advised that her juvenile grandchildren were with her at the residence.

When deputies arrived to the remote property, witnesses advised Lutz had walked off into the woods carrying a rifle and a handgun, and was wearing a camouflage “Ghillie Suit”.

 A perimeter was established and a search conducted by deputies and allied agencies, including California Highway Patrol Grass Valley and CHP Air Support. The victims and witnesses from the property were escorted out to safety and a precautionary lock down was implemented at nearby school during the search. At approximately noon, Lutz was located in the woods and was taken into custody without further incident. At the time of his arrest, Lutz was in possession of approximately 100 rounds of ammunition. Yuba Sheriff K9 “Rakko” was deployed for an article search and located a loaded handgun and rifle in the area where Lutz was detained.

Lutz was booked into the Yuba County Jail where he is being held with a bail of $150,000.
