Marysville, Ca. – The Yuba County Jail received notification this week that the long- standing
contract held between Yuba County and the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) will end
within the next 60 days. For over three decades, the Yuba County Jail has been housing ICE
detainees at their Marysville facility.
“The decision to end our contract came from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement,” says Sheriff
Wendell Anderson. “I stand by our jail, the staff, and the conditions, as we have always passed
every inspection. Before COVID restrictions, our jail averaged close to 175 detainees. That number
has gradually decreased and it’s understandable that it no longer fiscally makes sense for ICE to
continue the contract.”
The jail currently houses 4 detainees, who will be transferred to another facility. Yuba County
Jail was the last County facility in California with an ICE contract. As expected,
the contract’s termination will have an impact on Yuba County’s budget.
