The Records Unit of the Yuba County Sheriff’s Department serves as a pivotal hub for the management and dissemination of critical information essential to law enforcement operations and public inquiries. Staffed by three dedicated Criminal Records Clerks, the unit operates with precision and efficiency to fulfill a wide array of responsibilities essential to maintaining public safety and administrative compliance.

Key functions performed by the Records Clerks include:

  • Public Information Services: The Records Clerks serve as the primary point of contact for citizens seeking information either in-person at the public counter or via telephone. They adeptly field inquiries, provide guidance, and facilitate access to pertinent records and reports.
  • Live Scan Services: The unit conducts Live Scan transmissions to the California Department of Justice, facilitating the processing of fingerprint-based background checks for various purposes such as employment, licensing, and regulatory compliance.
  • Applicant Fingerprinting: In support of background screening processes, the Records Clerks perform applicant fingerprinting services, ensuring accuracy and adherence to established protocols.
  • Permit Issuance: The unit administers permits for peddlers operating within County jurisdiction, as well as explosive permits, maintaining meticulous records to ensure regulatory compliance and public safety.
  • Report Management: Records Clerks play a crucial role in maintaining agency reports and records, including fulfilling court-mandated functions and ensuring the integrity and accessibility of critical documentation.
  • Record Release Processing: Upon request, the unit processes record release requests in accordance with applicable laws and regulations, safeguarding sensitive information while facilitating lawful access to records.
  • Statistical Reporting: The unit compiles monthly statistical reports for submission to the Department of Justice Uniform Crime Reporting program, contributing to broader efforts in crime analysis and resource allocation.
  • Towed Vehicle Information: Records Clerks maintain and provide information regarding towed vehicles, assisting both law enforcement agencies and members of the public in navigating related inquiries and procedures.

Service and Fee Schedules

Most services are available during normal business hours. Fingerprinting/Live Scans are scheduled by appointment on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Please allow 15 minutes per person for fingerprinting and registration processing. The records unit will accept cash or check payment for services.

Fingerprinting- Live Scan and Applicant Cards

  • $20.00 per transmission (increases to $30 per transmission, effective July 1, 2024)
  • Background fees vary and are not included in the Live Scan fee
  • Individuals should telephone the office to determine the type and fee schedule for the appropriate background check before arriving at the Sheriff’s Office.  The Records Unit can be reached at 530-749-7778
