Some frontline workers now qualify to receive COVID-19 vaccine
Now includes workers age 50-64 in education, food/agriculture, emergency service

Yuba-Sutter County-sponsored clinics providing COVID-19 vaccines to residents will expand beyond those age 65 and older to include a hybrid of the state’s Phase 1b, Tier 1 – allowing doses for frontline workers in education and childcare, food and agriculture, and emergency services who are also 50 to 64 years of age.

Those who qualify will be able to register for vaccines beginning Wednesday (Feb. 17) at 9 a.m.

Yuba-Sutter Health Officer Dr. Phuong Luu said the change makes sense at this point, as this past week the region began seeing a decline in registrations for those who previously qualified. The next few weeks will continue to focus on vaccinations for those who are at the greatest risk for hospitalization or death from COVID-19.

"By adjusting clinic qualifications to allow those frontline workers who are age 50 and older to get vaccinated, we are continuing to allow science and statistics to guide us," Dr. Luu said. "As we look to expand vaccine qualification in our community, we cannot ignore the fact that people in that age group are at least three times more likely to die in the hospital, than those who are younger. It has always been about protecting lives."

Frontline workers who qualify will need to bring both a letter from their employer or paystub to confirm that they work in one of the frontline sectors AND an official ID (driver’s license, passport, etc.) for age verification.

Registration information for all vaccination clinics can be found online at the two county websites: www.yuba.org/vaccines and www.suttercounty.org/vaccine. These websites are updated with new County clinic information each Wednesday at 9 a.m. Links to clinics through other healthcare facilities are updated as new information comes in.
